The Premier League's New Hi-Vis Puma Ball Kicks Off This Weekend!

The Premier League's New Hi-Vis Puma Ball Kicks Off This Weekend!

How quickly is it getting dark now? Since the clocks went back, all those late afternoon and early evening training sessions are definitely taking place under floodlights.

Well, the Premier League has just rolled out the new hi-vis match ball, nicknamed the 'Under the Lights' edition by PUMA to help brighten up the winter gloom. It’s vibrant, colourful, and certainly makes a difference on the pitch!

When Can You See It On The Big Stage?

The new ball is making its debut in a huge match: Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United. which is taking place this Saturday, 8th November 2025. If you're watching, there's no chance you'll miss it.

Why the Colour Change? A Bit of Footy History

Ever wonder why they bother changing the ball mid-season? It's all down to the clocks and daylight.

The introduction of the hi-vis ball always coincides with the switch from British Summer Time (BST) to GMT. Why? Because the amount of daylight reduces hugely. By the time December hits, it's dark by 4 pm! This means most big games are played under floodlights, and a white or darker coloured ball can just disappear. The bright fluorescent yellow and pink colours of the PUMA "Under the Lights" ball ensure players, officials, and TV viewers can easily follow the movement.

It's actually a bit of a tradition now:

  • This is PUMA's first season supplying the league ball, and it's certainly been a busy one, with over 200 goals already scored!
  • The very first Premier League winter ball was introduced back in the 2004/05 season and this new PUMA ball is the 20th different hi-vis design we’ve seen over the years.
  • The hi-vis balls usually stick around until the early spring when the days start stretching out again, though the league has used a third ball from 2019/20 onwards for the final months of the campaign.
