Formed by Garry O’Hanlon in September 2022 with a small number of 8-year-old kids with a desire to start a team for them to be able to play football. Garry was then followed shortly by Allan Cochrane with an even smaller number of 7-year-old kids after being let down by the same previous club and from those humble beginnings seen the start of the East Kilbride Colts FC Academy.

Fast forward 2 years and the club began 2024 with 90 young players, and during that year more than doubled their membership to over 200 players. This growth speaks to the hard work and commitment of their coaches, volunteers, and players. Their coaching team grew to 33 strong, ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, receives the guidance and support needed to succeed.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated group of volunteers, from parents to local supporters, has been integral to their operations. Their tireless efforts in event organisation, logistics, and fundraising have been crucial to the club’s continued success. Moving forward there will be more coming out from them as the clubs growth doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

A Successful Amateur Team

2024 also saw their successful amateur team achieve a major milestone by winning their league title. Their dedication and teamwork have not only earned them this well-deserved victory but have also strengthened the overall spirit of the Colts, highlighting that EK Colts is a community for all ages.

EK Colts is about more than just football, it’s about fostering a community. The club continues to champion inclusivity, teamwork, and respect, providing opportunities for all children to play, learn, and grow. The membership growth reflects their welcoming environment and commitment to creating a positive space for families.

Looking to the Future

The successes of 2024 laid a strong foundation for the future, which they're continuing to build on, expanding their offerings, developing new skill programmes, and strengthening their partnerships with local groups and businesses.

Each year, they form new squads for Fun 4s, ensuring that their youngest players have a place to start their football journey. Additionally, they have exciting plans to build their Under 18 and Under 19 teams. Their pursuit of the Scottish FA Silver Quality Mark highlights their commitment to excellence and development at all levels.

A significant development is their efforts to secure the community asset transfer of the Murray Recreation Area, ensuring long-term growth and integration into the East Kilbride community. They are also in the process of achieving charity status, which will further strengthen their position as a community-focused organisation.
